1st & 10: High school football story lines for Week 2

After a week in the books, two for some teams, questions pop up but panic buttons need not be pressed. It’s too early to say who is rebuilding, who has reloaded, who has what it takes to go deep this football season. Story lines begin to heat up as we head into Week 2. Let’s take a look at 10 of the best:

No. 2 Rising fast

No. 7 Tempe Marcos de Niza (1-0) at No. 10 Scottsdale Chaparral (0-1), Friday, 7 p.m.

When was the last time Chaparral fell from the top-10 in Division II? It could happen if the Firebirds don’t respond after losing to Scottsdale Saguaro 41-14 in the opener. Marcos de Niza is showing that four well-traveled transfers who left the team after last season doesn’t break the heart of a family, as first-year coach Sean Morin has the Padres playing fast and with passion. Morin also is turning Avery Sanders loose on both sides of the ball.
